CEDAR FOREST
Korision Lake is located at the southwest part of Corfu, close to Argyrades village. It is a 6.000 square meter land that includes the Korision lagoon and sandy beaches that have naturally formed around it. A magical world unravels in front of your eyes. From its sand covered dunes on one side to the soft sands of the sea on the other, this area is both beautiful and wild. The wind swept dunes covered in Juniper bushes meets the beaches of St Georges, Issos and at its far end separated by a small inlet channel, the beach of Chalikounas. The creation of sand dunes started 120-240 thousand years ago, as the sea slowly receded, and their height surpasses 15 meters, creating a unique, Sahara-like landscape.

The stunning scenery is complemented by a species of sea cedar that thrives on the northern the northern Mediterranean coastal sands, creating an ancient, rare cedar forest of Korission Lake. The forest expands from the Lagoon’s Mouth, and after 3 km it reaches in the beach of Issos. Thickets of small cypress-like trees, belonging to the Juniperus family, sprout from the sand to compose an enchanting, one-of-a-kind landscape.

Small reed beds and tamarisk trees, white lilies and 14 different species of orchid complete the beautiful image of the Cedar forest and of the lagoon.
